Patricia Highsmith est née au Texas en 1921. Son premier roman,
L'Inconnu du Nord-Express, est devenu un grand classique de la littérature policière qui inspira Hitchcock. Suivirent nombre de chefs-d'oeuvre qui firent de Highsmith l'auteur le plus adapté au grand écran. Elle a vécu longtemps en France et en Suisse, où elle s'est éteinte en 1995. L'ensemble de son oeuvre est publié aux éditions Calmann-Lévy.
