Franco-Romanian artist Mircea Cantor (b. 1977) is a nomad who seeks to shine a light on the malfunctions of the human being through the lens of contemporary society. Subtly poking fun at our traditions, he criticizes the world, politics, and the phenomenon of globalization, all the while focusing on human aspirations. In the tradition of Marcel Duchamp, Cantor makes use of ready-made objects or iconography to expose the ambiguity of our daily life. The media he chooses is diverse - video, animation, sculpture, drawings, paintings and installations - and the visual effects of his works are often ambiguous, leaving interpretation up to the viewer's discretion. This thoroughly illustrated monograph documents Mircea Cantor's first solo exhibition in Canada.  ?
