I am writing this book because I believe communication is difficult even in the smallest sense. I was once in a class with a professor at Snow College and he told the class, something to the effect of, as many as there are people in the room that is how many different chairs people are thinking of when I say the word "chair". This got me thinking that if we often misunderstand one another when we use a simple term such as chair, how much more do we misunderstand one another when we relay an entire sentence, a paragraph, or even an entire story. The reason that this is important enough to me to write a book is because I want my children to understand that when we communicate a word it might mean something different to someone else and sometimes that can result in some real frustration. I want to help my children learn how to navigate a conversation and in order to do that they need to decipher when there might be a miscommunication.
