About the Author:

Jerry Perlet is a retired elementary school teacher and principal from the Montgomery County Public School system. During his 39 years as am educator, he often told stories to his students about mice living in Washington DC and a dragon that lived on Sugarloaf Mountain. In retirement, Jerry and his wife Marie are enjoying publishing the stories to share with children everywhere. Jerry Perlet’s Dragon Stories are a compilation of many years of storytelling about the dragon who lives on the mountain and befriends the children. The first dragon story was told to a group of students at Monocacy Elementary School in Montgomery County, Maryland as they waited for a late bus. The setting comes from Sugarloaf Mountain and the many farmhouses in the area. Students at Monocacy and Sherwood Elementary School contributed many ideas to the stories. The stories tell of many exciting adventures with a friendly magical dragon. Children learn many lessons about loyalty, friendship, problem-solving, following directions, and enjoying childhood. The Adventures with Grandpa Ek: Washington D.C. and Adventures with Grandpa Ek: Annapolis books were written in response to many student questions about our nation’s capital and the Maryland state capital. The main character Grandpa Ek is based on Jerry’s grandfather, Ralph Eklund, who was a first generation immigrant from Sweden. He always told great stories and was a loving grandfather. Grandmother M, the leader of the Mouse Secret Agency, is based on Marie’s Grandmother Myers who was an innovative and creative woman. Jerry often presents book talks to classes discussing the process of writing and publishing books. The interactive presentation provides the students with the opportunity to help him write one of his stories and encourages them to become writers. As an educator, Jerry has also presented at national conventions and provided extensive training within MCPS on a variety of educational topics. Jerry and Marie continue to collaborate on writing new books for children and a new mystery novel series for adults. They are enjoying their new career together.
