This book is about my life as a person whose parents were told would not be able to go beyond the eighth grade. However, in spite of this, I not only graduated from high school but also did well in college and completed three college degrees and after thirty- five years in public school education retired as a school superintendent in 1988. Throughout this book, I point out how my various school situations and every day life were an indicator of being dyslexic and how it hindered my progress in school, but in some cases turned out to be very helpful. My motivation for this book is the hope that those people who have been affected by this condition of the brain will find value in reading this book and with God’s help, many people will be able to overcome this condition and subsequently live fulfilling and enjoyable lives that will contribute to the betterment of our society.

About the Author:
Jack R. Newton served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He selected public school education as a career and served 35 years starting as a high school teacher and retiring as a school superintendent. The fo-cal point of his career was the desire to help young people who were struggling with learning disabilities. A lot of effort was placed into voca-tional, community and preschool education and over the years a number of programs were created to satisfy these needs. In the 1960's, the author was able to secure a special grant from the Office of Economic Opportunity for an experimental Head Start pro-gram. With the help of Michigan State University, this program gained national recognition and helped to provide a foundation for early child-hood development. Mr. Newton and his wife currently reside in St. Joseph, MO.
