About the Author A native of Eastern Kentucky, Mike Norris has been writing songs since age 10. His compositions have been recorded by country, folk, and bluegrass artists. He has had short stories and poems published and have been a staff musician at the Hindman Settlement School Appalachian Folk Week for many years. He is the father of Cari and John Norris, also songwriters and musicians, and lives in Lexington, Kentucky, with his wife, Carmen.About the Illustrator Minnie Adkins, who has been carving since she was five years old, is one of America's best-known folk artists. Among many honors, she has won the Folk Art Society of America Distinguished Artist Award, the Centre College Norton Award, and the Morehead University Appalachian Treasure Award. Her work is part of many permanent collections including the Smithsonian American Art Museum; the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.; the American Folk Art Museum; the Huntington Museum of Art; and the Kentucky Folk Art Center. She has illustrated another children's book, Sonny the Monkey, and lives in Isonville, Kentucky.
