Review:
will most certainly be regarded as the authoritative source for the all things related this amazing company.....I found the book extremely captivating on two levels. First, the book does an excellent job of telling history with a detailed description of all of the HURST projects ranging from their speed equipment line, their factory sanctioned builds of modified race cars and street cars (from Dodge, American Motors, Pontiac, Oldsmobile), and their specialty built race cars (HEMI under Glass, The Hairy Oldsmobile, Goldenrod, etc). Second, the book does an exemplary job of describing the personalities, triumphs, defeats, set- backs and acrimony within the HURST organization. This gives the story a depth and reality that weaves a tapestry of human determination, hard work, risk taking and business success...if you are a 'car guy' this is a must-read --Examiner dot com, January, 2013---the authors give the full story, from the production vehicles and racecars to the shifters and performance parts, through first-person historical accounts from Truesdell combined with interviews and in-depth research. 'Hurst Equipped' is the first book to document how the innovator George Hurst turned his love of hot rods into one of the most recognizable names in the automotive aftermarket. --Hotrodhotline, October, 2013---The name has been on the side of an Indy pace car and some of the most potent muscle cars to ever come out of Detroit had its shifter in the center console. Now, the story of half a decade of automotive groundbreaking is in one place with the release of 'Hurst Equipped: More Than 50 Years of High Performance,' a book that tells the complete history of all things Hurst. --Moparmuscle, Oct, 2012----o illustrate the Hurst's past and present, the authors relied on vintage illustrations and photos, as well as modern photography that takes readers through Hurst-equipped Pontiacs, Hurst/Olds masterpieces, Hurst AMC products and, of course, Hurst Mopar all the way up to the new Challenger and Chrysler 300C.... the hardbound Hurst Equipped does a great job of recalling the golden eras of Hurst in its 160 pages. And it's a bargain compared to the outdated original book. -Old Cars Weekly, November 22, 2012--- Fletcher and Truesdell pack a lot of information and history into a fairly brief volume, not an easy trick considering the breadth and depth of George Hurst's influence on the automotive scene. Period photos and advertisements mix with contemporary photos of some of Hurst's key projects-- the Hemi Under Glass Baracuda, SC/Rambler, Hurst/Olds-- in a concise history that runs right up to today's limited-edition muscle cars. - --Muscle Car Review, January 2013---Sometimes the shadow on the wall is so much biger than the thing creating the shadow, and that certainly sums up Hurst Performance Products. The company took a pretty small range of offerings and created an image that was so much bigger than the parts they sold. In some ways, Hurst was a triumph of marketing an image over actual performance, and through the showmanship of George Hurst, they kept the image alive well past their ability to thrive as an innovator or sales machine. Hurst Equipped does a nice job of telling that story. - --Keith Martin's American Car Collector, Jan/Feb 2013
Don't pass this book by because it has muscle cars on the cover! Hurst was so much more than performance parts and racecars. This is the first-ever look at the company and its many products and, at least a little bit, the man himself--speedreaders, Jan, 2013--- You know what's really sad? That George Hurst will never get to see this book. It's long overdue, and he would have loved it, we guarantee you --Hemmings Muscle Machines, March 2013
a great new book from CarTech on the exploits of George Hurst that certainly kept me entertained...For the uninitiated, George Hurst was the man that kept legons of muscle car owners entertained during the sixties making cars go faster with his range of perormance equipment, particularly gearshifters. cars so equipped could truly bear the legend 'Hurst Equipped'....great book, get it. --TKC magazine, March, 2013
