About the Author:

Debra Laaser, contributing author to Clergy Sexual Misconduct, has a Masters degree in counseling from Adler Graduate School. She started and ran a national company for more than twenty years, becoming president and CEO of its operations. She currently works full time with her husband, Mark, at their counseling center providing support for women and couples. She is the author of Shattered Vows and co-author with Mark Laaser of The Seven Desires of Every Heart. She has also co-authored Open Hearts: Renewing Relationships with Recovery, Romance & Reality, with her husband, Mark Laaser, and Patrick J. Carnes, Ph.D. Debbie and Mark reside in Minnesota and have three grown children.

Mark Laaser, M.Div., Ph.D., contributing author to Clergy Sexual Misconduct, holds a doctorate in religion and psychology from the University of Iowa and a M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, USA. He is an internationally known author and speaker who has written six books, including Before the Fall, Healing the Wounds of Sexual Addiction, Talking to Your Kids about Sex, and The Pornography Trap. He has also co-authored Open Hearts: Renewing Relationships with Recovery, Romance & Reality, with his wife, Debra Laaser, and Patrick Carnes, Ph.D. He and his wife started Faithful and True Ministries to counsel couples healing from sexual addiction.

Patrick Carnes, Ph.D., C.A.S., CSAT, is a nationally known speaker on addiction and recovery issues. He is the author of numerous books, including Out of the Shadows: Understanding Sexual Addiction (1992), Contrary to Love: Helping the Sexual Addict (1989), The Betrayal Bond: Breaking Free of Exploitive Relationships (1997), Facing the Shadow (2001), In the Shadows of the Net (2001), The Clinical Management of Sex Addiction (2002), Facing Addiction (2011), and The Recovery Start Kit (2007). He is also a a contributing author of Mending a Shattered Heart: A Guide for Partners of Sex Addicts (2011). Dr. Carnes is currently the Executive Director of the Gentle Path program at Pine Grove Behavioral Center in Hattiesburg, Miss. He is the primary architect of Gentle Path treatment programs for the treatment of sexual and addictive disorders. He also pioneered the founding of the Certified Sex Addiction Therapist program and the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals.
