David Torrance is a political journalist and contemporary historian. In Breaking the Silence, Torrance draws on the experiences of Sandy Campbell (creator of Working Rite which is a mentoring project for teenagers), John Carnochan (who was a policeman for 39 years before establishing the Violence Reduction Unit) and Pete Seaman (who has conducted extensive research in issues that affect Scottish men such as alcohol consumption, gang involvement and fatherhood) to explores issues concerning Scottish men.
