David Armstrong was born in Birmingham in 1946. After leaving school at fifteen, he worked as a salesman, building labourer and lorry-driver, and sold books to the British Forces in Germany. In 1974, after taking an English degree at the University of Wales, Cardiff, he began teaching at a college of further education in Shropshire. He has two grown-up children and lives in the Welsh Borders. ‘Thought for the Day’ is his fourth novel.
Clifford Benyon, cuckolded landlord of the Belle Vue Hotel, is tortured by this wife's flagrant affair with one of his best customers. Pushed beyond the limits of endurance, he hires a boatman to kill his wife's lover and wants nothing more than for his life to be normal again. But once the deed is done it gathers its own deadly momentum, and he finds himself caught in a situation spiralling out of control.
