This is a revised edition of a work first published in 1977, when the English fishing communities of the east coast, with their unique skills and beliefs, were already fast disappearing before the introduction of new technology. Today, this highly evocative text tells of a world which has now virtually vanished. Long out of print it was reprinted in 1999, revised and re-set and with a sequence of photographs which were not printed before. The interviews with fishermen and their families were conducted in Norfolk, between Brancaster and Lowestoft and are gathered into the following chapters: Early Days, Crabs and Lobsters, Whelks, Worm-Digging, Mussels, A Little of Everything, The Fisherman's Wife, and Chiefly Herring.
