His fame only increased after From Here To Eternity was made into an Oscar-winning film starring Burt Lancaster, Deborah Kerr, Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra. The Ice-Cream Headache has been out of print for more than fifteen years, and is Jones's only collection of short stories. Unique to the collection is an author's introduction that discusses his development as a writer over twenty years, beginning in 1947, as well as a preface by his daughter, herself a respected novelist. These thirteen penetrating, sensitive and remarkably varied stories are about men, women and children in love, at war, in marriage. Each story is distinguished by the classic simplicity, emotional resonance, and lasting impact that is the hallmark of the greatest short story writers.
