This intriguing picture book takes you from 1 to 10 and back again, and each number is illustrated by often whimsical colour photographs. Alda's sharp eye finds "2", for example, in an old-fashioned coat-hanger; "3" in the neck of a swan reflected in water; and "8" in the two halves of a sliced and liberally cream- cheesed bagel. Some of the shapes are strikingly apt, while others need a bit of "reading", but all are designed to help young readers see the world--and the world of numbers--a bit differently.
