How I came to write the book.
A few winters ago, my son, who was five at the time, and I were on our way to a performance of Peter Pan at a local college. We were in Somerset County, NJ, and were driving past farms and open fields. It was a cold winter and with lots of snow. The hills around us were white and pure. The sight reminded me of the first time my father, who was from the Caribbean, walked on snow. I told my son the story and he said, "Daddy, that's a good story, why don't you write it?" I did and it took me three years to write it. The story honors my father, a great man, completely devoted to the family, and it pays tribute to the beauty of snow and the magic of winter. Also the story celebrates the immigrant experience in the U.S. I hope you find it a good reading experience. Thanks for visiting the site.
