This facsimile reprint of the classic work of 1908 was accompanied with some corrections edited by the author's widow, the medievalist Marjorie Anderson, who also wrote a foreword and a bibliographical supplement. The work was Anderson's first book and it set standards which he followed in his later monumental work, 'Early Sources of Scottish History'. It complements that larger work by taking all the references to early medieval Scotland which appear in English sources, whereas the later work took them from Scottish and Irish sources.
