The West Somerset Railway, that we can travel on today was closed to passenger traffic by British Rail in January 1971. That as we now know was not to be the end. Just 4 months later a small band of enthusiasts met and formed The West Somerset Railway Association. From this first meeting an ever growing numbers of enthusiastic volunteers started to climb the initial mountain, reinstating a service from Minehead to Blue Anchor which was achieved and opened on 28 March 1976. Over the ensuing years they have scaled many more! The line has not just reopened from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard (on 9 June 1976) it has restored, grown and developed - with new station facilities, carriage sheds, workshops, signal boxes etc., etc. For the enthusiast there are classic shots of the railway operating during the year, but this is not just a book for enthusiasts - memories are made of these pictures. The station scenes, fashions, old carriages, waggons, buildings, advertising, etc, will evoke memories of days past.
