In 2000 he was one of the four architects chosen to represent Britain at the prestigious Venice Biennale. His early training and teaching in art have profoundly marked his approach to architecture. Created in close co-operation with Will Alsop, the book is profusely illustrated with sketches, paintings, plans and photographs and covers Alsop's earliest training up to his built projects of the 1980s. About the Author

Kenneth Powell is an architectural critic and journalist based in London. His many books include monographs on the work of Norman Foster, Edward Cullinan and Richard Rogers. Titles for Laurence King include: Architecture Reborn, City Transformed and The Jubilee Line Extension. Actively involved in the field of architectural conservation for some years, he was secretary of SAVE Britain's Heritage from 1984 to 1987, and is currently consultant director at the Twentieth Century Society.
