The Victor's unique mix of adventure, war and sport was phenomenally successful. The Victor no. 1" sold 497,786 copies, and by 1965 the comic's weekly circulation broke the half million mark. It had become a national institution that lasted for over 30 years. Ebay continues to do brisk back-issue business, with new sales coming online every week.

About the Author:

Morris Heggie has worked at iconic British comics publisher DC Thomson in Dundee for nearly 40 years. He began as trainee subeditor on The Rover in an office next door but one to The Victor's editorial team, and kept a close eye on the way they paid attention to historical details. Morris has spent the latter part of his career working on The Beano and The Dandy, but his in-house knowledge of The Victor's heritage and back-issue archive is second to none.
