Home Telehealth is the provision of high-quality care delivered by telecommunications to patients at home. It enables doctors and nurses to see, hear and talk to patients, take their vital signs and even conduct biochemical tests - all at a distance. The application of home telehealth allows for greater efficiency, increasing access to patients in remote regions at a lower cost and can also reduce hospitalisations. Home Telehealth: Connecting Care Within the Community demonstrates how medicine can be applied to homecare and challenges clinicians to consider it in their everyday working practice. This book addresses the evidence-base, the techniques, applications and future implications. It draws together a wide range of topics, including smart homes, wound management, fall monitoring, quarantine applications, chronic disease management, child monitoring, home health monitoring and home dialysis. Written by experts from four continents, this book provides an informative and comprehensive review of best practice in the field. It should prove invaluable for medical practitioners of all kinds, for nurses, health service managers and IT staff.

Review:

5 Stars: Describes the state of the art reached in this emerging field
An interesting book that greatly achieves in drawing a picture of the `state of the art' that has been reached today internationally. This level is reflected in best practice case studies taken from successful projects.

I liked the way this book helps to identify key criteria and critical factors specific to a Home Telehealth project view. It actually fosters the understanding necessary for undertaking successful implementation and operation of Home Telehealth services.

The book appeals by its systematic and logical structure. All the contributions are kept in a rather non-technical language. A book that appears to be primarily targeted at health care professionals, project managers and decision makers, but also accessible to non-specialists interested in the `Home Telehealth' subject.

This edited resource helps to understand to which frontiers the conventional `one-to-one' care delivery chains need to evolve.

This is in my view an important milestone book on the healthcare industry's route to medium and long term achievement of full scale `Home Telehealth' modalities.

Synopsis:
"Home Telehealth", the newest addition to the "RSM Press telemedicine" series, describes the medical treatments that can now take place in the home thanks to advances in telemedicine technology. As demand on hospitals increases, as well as concern about the secondary infections that can be contracted during visits, health experts and government advisors are looking at ways in which the long term sick, as well as acute patients, can be treated in alternate settings. This book covers what has been done to date, as well as presents practical guidance on setting up a suitable home care facility, and shows how this facility interacts with the health professional.
