Synopsis: In this book Felicity Peake tells of her remarkable career in the Women's Royal Air Force. She joined the WAAF in 1939 as an Aircraftwoman Equipment Assistant Second Class and in 1946, at the age of 33, had risen to the very top when she was appointed Director. During the war she served at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain, at Bomber Command, commanded the WAAF Officers School and served in the Middle East. She played an enormous part in ensuring that women in the services were treated equally with men and had the full support of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sir Charles Portal. As first Director of the newly-formed Women's Royal Air Force in 1949 she played a major role in the shape of the service.
