Synopsis
The 1991 British Open Golf Championship was keenly contested, but in the end it belonged to the Australians, and in particular to Ian Baker-Finch, who at last won golf's most treasured trophy, and to Mike Harwood, who finished as runner-up. It was an unpredictible Open, for the top Europeans - Faldo, Woosnam, Olazabal and Ballesteros - started among the favourites but finished disappointingly low in the final placings. It was also a difficult championship and the course itself, with par set at an all-time low of 70, made the headlines in its own right, with windy conditions on the first two days, its infamous opening hole and its controversial greens. Written and illustrated by some of the sport's leading journalists and photographers, this officially authorized annual sets out to recapture the atmosphere of the 1991 Open. It also includes a hole-by-hole description of the Royal Birkdale course, a table of final placings and the results of every Open since 1860.
