Synopsis:
The magnificent Tresco Abbey Garden was established in 1834 and has been lovingly maintained and developed by five generations of the same family. In addition to the early history of the garden, there are detailed accounts of the disastrous damage caused by the snows in 1987, the hurricane three years later and the tremendous effort that went into recreating the garden. Since then a new garden entrance and visitor centre has been opened and the Mediterranean garden has been developed. This book is a celebration of 170 years of gardening; a celebration of generations of gardeners and owners committed to creating a unique garden 'set like a jewel shining out of the sea'. The author has included the New Year's Day and a sample of the Summer Flowering lists and a personal record of those plants that make Tresco unique. This book is profusely illustrated with over 145 colour and 20 archive pictures from the family albums.
