Chichester Festival Theatre May 2009 - Iain Glen stars in the world premiere of this new version of Schiller's famous play. After the success of his version of Don Carlos, starring Derek Jacobi, which played to sold-out houses in Sheffield, the West End and Broadway, Mike Poulton turns to Schiller's other great tragic hero. Wallenstein was commander-in-chief of the Hapsburg army during the Thirty Years War (1618-48), but his ambition brought him into fatal conflict with his monarch, the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II. The world premiere of this new version of Wallenstein at the Chichester Festival Theatre on 22 May, 2009 stars Iain Glen, seen on BBC-TV as Anne Frank's father and on stage in The Blue Room with Nicole Kidman. As well as Don Carlos, Mike Poulton's previous stage adaptations include The Canterbury Tales for the RSC, which also transferred to the West End, Strindberg's The Father for Chichester and Ibsen's Rosmersholm for the Almeida (2008), all published by NHB. He lives in Allerton, West Yorks.
