"Schlurfs" waren Arbeiterjugendliche, die zur Zeit der NS-Herrschaft in Wien ihren eigenen subkulturellen, an angloamerikanischer Mode orientierten Stil entwickelten und gerne zu Swing tanzten. Sie gerieten dadurch in Gegensatz zur Hitlerjugend, lieferten sich mit dieser zuweilen harte Auseinandersetzungen und wurden von den nationalsozialistischen Behörden verfolgt. Bei dem vorliegenden Buch handelt es sich um die 1993 verfasste Diplomarbeit von Anton Tantner, die versucht, die Jugendsubkultur der "Schlurfs" in den Gesamtzusammenhang der europäischen Jazz-Subkulturen einzuordnen: Ähnlich wie die Hamburger "Swings" und "Swingheinies", die Pariser "Zazous", die Prager "potápki" und die Wiener bürgerlichen "Swings" entwickelten "Schlurfs" aus den Angeboten der Kulturindustrie ihren eigenen Stil, der im Widerspruch zum Nationalsozialismus stand.
