He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:8). This is Micahs challenge to Israel in his day and to the Church in our day. God called them and us to act with justice, mercy and humility in our dealings with the poor. This book pulls together prophetic voices from Jim Wallis to Tony Campolo and from Ronald Sider to René Padilla and Joel Edwards to explore the theological, ethical and practical dimensions of Micahs challenge. The heart of the book is an exploration of acting justly, walking humbly, and loving mercy. That call is set within a broader biblical and theological framework and followed by reflections on how we might live it out today. Micahs Challenge offers a passionate, biblical, and challenging call to think afresh and to act redemptively as individuals and as Christian communities.

Review:
I warmly welcome this book. --Gordon Brown MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

We all have a shared responsibility for our neighbours, for our country and for our planet. This book sets out the churchs responsibilities to the global poor. And, above all, it represents a clarion call to governments, holding them to account for the commitments they have made. The Millennium Development Goals were not vague aspirations. They are promises to some of the most vulnerable people on earth, and it is vital they are met. --David Cameron MP, Leader of the Conservative Party, UK

In light of our Lords prayer that his disciples should be united it is wonderful that the World Evangelical Alliance exists as a focus of unity for 400 million evangelicals scattered in 128 countries. In light of our Lords compassion for the poor it is wonderful that the Micah Network exists as a focus of unity for over 300 evangelical relief, development and justice organisations in 75 countries. I rejoiced when these two bodies got together to establish Micah Challenge in order to mobilise evangelicals worldwide to hold the governments of almost 190 nations to account for their September 2000 commitment to achieving the 8 Millennium Development Goals by 2015. I commend this book that brings together contributions from an older generation that has provided the theological rationale for the appearance of such a movement as Micah Challenge among evangelicals. I also welcome the voice of a new generation that are competent to take up the cause of integral or holistic mission. --Dewi Hughes, Theological Advisor for Tearfund
