Review:
'Full of the sort of repetition and lulling husherby rhythm that keeps little children listening. The real motor is not the words, however, but the pictures, which are powerful and tender' --Independent
'Introducing the very young to both the I Spy game and those cumulative word games where you have to remember an increasing long string of objects, An Island in the Sun is also a dreamy and magical experience in its own right... As he sails across the great expanses of azure water, it is as if he is gathering everything you need to be happy - love, friendship, food, freedom and a place to play - through his spy-glass. Truly delightful' --The Guardian
'An Island in the Sun relates a boat outing from behind a telescope lens, and the succinct writing that beckons audience participation completes this beautifully illustrated book' --Financial Times
About the Author:
On good days, Stella Blackstone lives east of the sun and west of the moon. On less good days, she lives at the bottom of a well. She finds ideas in all of these places and turns them into songs, poems and rhymes. She has read and written poetry for as long as she can remember, and her favourite books include Louis Untermeyer's A Child's Treasury of Poetry, which was a constant companion throughout her childhood, Paolo Coelho's The Alchemist, everything by T.S. Eliot, and William Buck's translation of The Ramayana. She lives in southwest England, and enjoys walking and working in her garden as well as doing nothing whenever she has the chance. Nicoletta Ceccoli was born and still lives in San Marino, Italy, with her family and two pet hens. Since studying at the State Institute of Art in Urbino, she has illustrated a number of children's titles for prominent Italian publishers. Selected three times for exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, Nicoletta was awarded the prestigious Andersen Prize in 2000, honouring her as the best children's book illustrator in Italy.
