Review:
There won't be a dull moment when you open the pages of this madcap, interactive adventure! John Kane, who says he liked to make up stories for his little sister when he was younger, will have youngsters oohing and aahing with this highly original and fun-packed, call-and-response debut picture book which encourages young readers help to tell the story by responding to simple verbal or visual cues.
'There's something very important that I need you to remember. When I say Ooh, you say Aah as loudly as you can.' Ooh the donkey has lost his underpants and readers must help him find them. But it's going to take a lot of oohs, aahs, whispers, searching and silliness to find them! Each page of this entertaining and energetic book is a kaleidoscope of colour and words, and the perfect book to read aloud and share with your little ones. Laughter all the way... Author: Pam Norfolk Source: Lancashire Evening Post

I say OOH You say AAH is a hilarious read aloud picture book. It is hugely entertaining for the reader and the listener and introduces children to the concept of following instructions in a fun way. Listener responses are a big part of the reading experience and the first time we read the book together my daughter could hardly reply because she was laughing so much. She immediately wanted to read it out loud to Daddy!

When I say OOH You say AAH is the first instruction. Once you have practised that you are asked to say a specific word when you see a particular picture or do a specific action when you see a particular colour. The word repetition and the actions that you undertake introduce you to ants and a donkey who is looking for his underpants. Hilarity ensues and, if our experience with this book is anything to go by, you will be laughing out loud by the end of it!
Using simple text and bold colourful pictures I say OOH You say AAH is a brilliantly funny way of teaching a child how to respond to instructions. My daughter found it hilarious when she had to remind Daddy of an action he had missed.
The text is simple and repetitive and different size fonts let you know when you should shout or when you should whisper. The illustrations are bold and colourful, this book is as much about reading the pictures as the words. John Kane's use of white space and blocks of colour make it particularly appealing to younger children who are just starting to read picture books but it is also great fun for an older reader. My daughter finds it hilarious, she loves the donkey, especially when he puts his pants on. I love the picture of him running and think that the way that children are asked to say their name and personalise the story is brilliant!
I say OOH You say AAH would be a great book to use in the classroom with a new class as an icebreaker or in a one to one situation with a shy or reluctant reader. The repetition and the inclusion of 'picture reading' also makes it a great book for a beginner reader and a non native English speaker.
This is a fabulous book for showing children that books can be fun. Its friendly, chatty text and invitation to join in makes it a really amusing and interactive reading experience. Author: Catherine Friess Source: Story Snug

"There's something very important that I need you to remember. When I say Ooh, you say Aah. Are you ready?" Ooh, the donkey has lost his underpants and readers must help him find them by responding to interactive clues within the bright illustrations or the bold text. This hyperactive story is enormous fun for the whole family to read aloud and it made me guffaw with laughter. It will totally wind you up! Brilliant. Source: Drawing on Books

Frustrated that there has never been a follow up to the awesome "The Book With No Pictures" by B.J. Novak? Step right this way...
John Kane's hilarious participation book "I Say Ooh, You Say Aah" is definitely cut from similar cloth to "The Book With No Pictures" but there are a couple of important differences that mean this one stands on its own two loud stampy feet.

1) There are pictures! Yes indeed, and they're rather good too

2) This book really ramps up the participation levels for those being read to rather than the reader themselves.

In "I Say Ooh, You Say Aah" you'll meet a donkey (who doesn't really wear underpants on their head) and a chaotic and crazy story that unfolds largely with your help - you the audience that is.

Early years teachers and storytellers are going to absolutely LOVE the sheer manic chaos that breaks out whenever this book is read aloud, and kids begin to realise that their 'joining in' is vitally important.

Oh the fun you're going to have with this one, truly! Source: Read It Daddy Blog

One for reading out loud to a willing audience, this reminded me of those old-time party entertainers, but here, the silliness is executed with modern panache and an element of complete childhood joy.
This is a traditional call and response book - the author asks the reader to say or do something every time they read or see something. The result has an hilarious effect, leading to the children shouting underpants quite often. The reader has also to remember which action goes with which command, so it's stimulating too. Great for classroom fun, and the colours are bold, bright and all-encompassing. The author used to work in advertising - and it shows in the block colours - easy to look at, easy to understand. A simple book with a simple theme , but the interactivity between reader and audience will make it a specialstory to remember. Source: Creative Steps

John lives in Dublin, but has also lived in Australia, where he set up Australia's number one independent advertising agency. His first book is I Say Ooh. You say Aah and his plan is that it won't be the last.
