Synopsis

"Energetic artwork and heartfelt storytelling...I loved Reel Love." Jeff Lemire (Essex County Trilogy, The Underwater Welder)

In a quiet corner of England, a young boy visits the cinema for the first time. Overwhelmed by the experience, he returns to see a movie which will ignite his imagination, fill his head with fantasy and change the course of his life. That enthusiasm carries him though to his adolescence, when he gets a part-time job as an usher at his local cinema. Falling in with the motley crew of cinephile staff, he falls in love, finds his tribe, and fantasises about his film-filled future. The final act sees that same boy as a grown man, back in his hometown after life panned out in a slightly unexpected way. When an opportunity to break into the film world presents itself, he finds that his life has come full circle as he sets out again to make his magnum opus...

Review

An honest, bold, and ambitious story about the significance of Cinema, the yearning for love, and the need for validation. Deeply satisfying - Frank Quitely (All-Star Superman, We3)

An unforgettably powerful and deeply resonant exploration of the complex relationship between time, memory, and the passions that shape us...a truly triumphant breakout work - Andy Oliver, prominent graphic novel critic/Broken Frontier

The framework of film, the love of story, is encoded into the book at the genetic level and it gives every page both immediacy and elegance - Bleeding Cool

Expertly drawn, exuberantly planned, wildly funny and clear eyed, Reel Love is an absolute gem.If you’ve ever left a movie humming the theme tune, this is for you - Alasdair Stuart, staff writer Tor.com/Barnes & Noble

Reel Love is a remarkable, luminous story of self-discovery that reminds you what it’s like to fall in love and how happiness and contentment are often found in the overlooked and the trivial, frequently in the most unexpected places - Tim Cundle, Tripwire Magazine
