Bicycling and craft brew--it doesn't get more Portland. This is the only guide marries these two worlds by linking the best beer spots with routes that explore the city's first- class cycling boulevards, bike-friendly streets and quirky bike charm. This carefully curated guide separates the status-quo ale trail from the cutting edge brew destinations that make Portland so world-renowned.

Guidebooks Go Niche
"Lovers of the printed page will be cheered to know that the profusion of smartphone apps and wireless hot spots isn't nudging all travel guidebooks into extinction. The category is simply adapting, welcoming more titles with quirky angles...Portland, Ore.-based writers Ellee Thalheimer and Lucy Burningham (an Off Duty contributor) combined their respective passions for bicycles and beer to create this slim volume. It includes 10 cycling routes around the Portland area, charting top breweries, bottle shops and beer-centric bars and restaurants to visit on the way. Alongside plenty of practical information for cyclists, including bike-parking locations and detailed route maps, the authors have interspersed tidbits of Portland culture tailored to fans of fixed-gear bicycles and good IPA--such as when the city's best beer festivals take place or where you can join in on a Sunday afternoon game of bike polo (it's a Portland thing)."
Lucy Burningham is a writer who fell in love with beer when she moved to Portland, Oregon, from Salt Lake City in 2005. Since then she's written about craft beer, food and travel for a variety of publications, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Saveur, Bon Appétit, Lonely Planet guidebooks, Epicurious, Imbibe and the BBC. She combined two of her favorite things--bikes and beer--when she co-authored Hop in the Saddle: A Guide to Portland's Craft Beer Scene by Bike. She chronicled her journey to become a beer expert in My Beer Year, which will be published in fall 2016 (Roost Books).
