About the Author:

Nora Ephron was born in Manhattan in 1971 and grew up in Beverly Hills. From her earliest years, Ephron and her three sisters were taught to tell stories; her mother encouraged them to think of their lives as 'copy.' Her parents were Broadway playwrights, who would base the play Take Her, She's Mine on letters Nora sent home from Wellesley College. After graduation she became a journalist, writing for the New York Daily News, New York Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Esquire and Cosmopolitan. Her marriage and subsequent divorce from Carl Bernstein inspired her first novel, Heartburn, published in 1983 and later a movie starring Meryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. Her prolific essays and her movies - including Silkwood (1983), When Harry Met Sally (1989) and You've Got Mail (1998) - established Ephron as one of the foremost writers in the medium. She died of pneumonia (brought on by leukaemia) when she was 71.
