Frank Denby and Groucho Marx arrive on the set of the new Ty-Gor film expecting to have Groucho do his humorous walk-on. What they find is the murdered body of Randy Spellman, the star of the film. It soon emerges that Spellman was a womanizer and a blackmailer, giving many people reason to dislike, or even kill, him. With Frank's wife, Jane, only a few weeks away from giving birth the amateur detective team have promised to lay-off the sleuthing. But when a stuntwoman who has gone missing is suspected of the murder, it's Jane who insists they take up the case to clear the young woman's name. The investigation leads Frank and Groucho through the glamour and seediness of 1940s Hollywood - with Groucho signing autographs all the while!
