A Woman's Book of Life teaches women how to align with the physical changes that occur at every stage of life in order to maximize health and well-being. In the growth of early childhood, hormonal ups and downs, the possibility of childbearing, and growing older are powerful keys to unlocking a woman's potential. Those notorious temperature changes in menopause are not hot flashes, they're power surges, and A Woman's Book of Life traces the compelling biopsychospiritual reality of the move into authentic power at midlife. This is a book for any woman, of any generation. It allows the reader to look back and see the forgotten gifts of childhood, or to look ahead in celebration of what's to come. Whatever her age, no woman will be able to come away from this book without a greater appreciation for who women are, in their bodies, their emotions, their souls. Borysenko offers a rare chance to understand the gifts of being female and to celebrate the power of the feminine life cycle.

Reply to reader from Santa Fe: Julia isn't perfect nor am I.
The fictional woman Julia whom I created to illustrate women's lifecycles is indeed a well educated white woman like me. In the note to the reader at the front of the book, I called attention to the fact that the lifecycles and issues may not be the same for women of color, women living in or having immigrated from other cultures, gay women and many other groups. I wrote from a particular perspective because it was the best vantage point I had and truthfully, I am no expert in cross-cultural exploration. And as for Julia, our fictional character with the too-good-to-be-true life: her son develops a drug problem, her beloved husband has an affair and yet they heal, and as is the case for many women, he dies before she does and she copes with her elder years alone and quite well, thank you. I suppose I could have invented more troubles for her, but her life was meant to be a series of brief vignettes introducing the psychology, biology and spirituality of each cycle- not a novel. In several of my previous books, such as Guilt Is the Teacher, Love is the Lesson and Fire in the Soul I explored the dark and difficult passages to growth. A Woman's Book of Life was written just after my own divorce from a 20-something year marriage. Can you blame me for creating a woman who enjoyed a long marriage and worked through the tough spots with grace? I don't know about you, but at mid-life I'm just plain burned out on suffering, healing and political correctness. My three kids are grown, I'm two years into a wonderful new marriage (the third) and I'm learning to balance giving to others with giving to myself. Each day is a new joy because I choose it even though life's challenges keep on coming. And the best years are yet to come, dear sisters.
Examines the link between mind, body, and spirit in women, and shows how women can increase their levels of health and well-being and explore the power present in each stage of life.
