Pictorial Atlas of Soil and Seed Fungi describes 308 fungi species in brilliant detail using photomicrographs and illustrations. All fungi have been studied pathologically and mycologically during the course of soilborne plant disease studies.
The fungi described in this text were detected, isolated, and stocked during etiological and ecological studies. As a result of the current emphasis on biocontrol practices to control plant diseases, various saprophytic fungi are being studied to find effective biocontrol agents among them. In addition, physiologically active substances from fungal products are screened and found by studying soil fungi together with gene bank practices.

Review:
Praise for the first edition: "there are few books available that include the less photogenic and the nonpathogenic fungi. Pictorial Atlas of Soil and Seed Fungi cover[s] these neglected fungi Many of these fungi have already or may come into demand as a source of biological control agents, or as a source of a particular physiological active substance. because Watanabe gives detailed information on techniques for isolation, culturing, and identification, this text is a useful tool for any lab instructor or researcher needing the basics on how to study soil-borne fungi." -S. Coleman McCleneghan in Mycopathologia
