REVIEW: Bay Area Reporter, D. Peifer.
Laura is a beautiful, successful woman who has everything she needs, except a lover. Her painful memories of her previous relationship, however, make her think that true love and monogamous bliss are not for her. Lucky thing, because Kelly, a woman-in-every-port kind of gal, believes that Laura is just right to fill her occasional empty evening. Laura is happy with this purely (or should that be impurely?) sexual relationship until she finds herself the object of serious adoration by Kate, a baby dyke looking for love in all places, wrong or right. When Laura decides to add Kate to her life in a casual way--while Kate is thinking U-haul--well, you can just imagine what comes next and who. Or maybe you can't, because Ann O'Leary takes a fairly predictable situation and shakes it up very nicely, offering more than a few twists on an old story. Better than her plots or her plot twists, however, are her very well developed characters. I especially enjoyed the baby dyke, whose puppy love reminded me of a time very long ago. With some laughs and a few tears, LETTING GO is a pleasurable read that will open your eyes or bring back memories--or maybe both.
