Synopsis:
This guide (a package of a book and a disk) to discovering and experimenting with a microcomputer network ranges from LAN basics to actual installation. It includes an introduction to LAN theories, including network benefits and pitfalls, data communications, topologies and architecture. Advice is given on how to build and install LAN communication cables, configure and troubleshoot network hardware and software and provide continuing support to users. Programming techniques such as serial communications and "terminate-and-stay" resident programs are also covered. This book also focuses on the Blueprint Local Area Network (BP-LAN), which is an inexpensive Local Area Network developed by the author. The disk contains Intel 8086 source code and object files, formatted in MS/PC-DOS.
