Mitchell Draper wants to become a famous screenwriter, but he's doing temp jobs and writing gay porn instead. His best friend, Ingrid, who runs a coffee shop, wants to paint full-time but is afraid to show her work. His friend Ramir wants to be a respected actor, but the only roles he gets are cheesy, ethnically stereotyped bit parts in TV cop shows. Then, out of the blue, Mitchell gets a call from Carmen Denver, a mysterious and obnoxious Hollywood producer who wants him to write the script for a crime thriller. Euphoria reigns until Mitchell gets a threatening phone call telling him to abandon the project.
