This is a reprint of a work originally published in 1911. It contains letters written by Dr. Spencer Glasgow Welch, Surgeon of the 13th South Carolina Infantry, McGowan's Brigade. Dr. Welch was a devoted husband, soldier, and physician as revealed in these letters, which describe battles, camp life, patriotism, and even the execution of deserters. It is a poignant look into the core of the Confederate soldier's experiences. An added bonus is the editor's research into the Welch family, and how this book came to be originally published. It is a nice little gift book.
