Joy Thomas was born Joy Sandwith in St Annes on Sea, Lancashire. In the early 50's she travelled with her parents to Northern Rhodesia, where they lived until 1959. She returned to England and settled in Gloucestershire. Married in 1963 she moved to Gloucester City. She has three children, three step children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retiring she rekindled her love of music and writing and became a member of No.8 Writers' Workshop, having had several poems and short stories published.
