About the Author:
Eric M. Siereveld is a jazz trumpet player, originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. When he was 16 he heard his first Clifford Brown record and was hooked. He studied music education and trumpet at Morehead State University. While there, Eric was afforded the opportunity to study trumpet with Greg Wing, one of the finest trumpet players in the world. He also studied jazz with Gordon Towell, and jazz piano with Steve Snyder. After completing his BME, Eric was accepted at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in the Jazz Studies program. While at Indiana, he studied jazz with the legendary David Baker and trumpet with William Adam, Joey Tartell, and Pat Harbison. Eric also studied arranging and composition with Brent Wallarab. Eric is a freelance musician and teacher located in the NYC area. He leads his own projects including the Straight Ahead Quartet and his sextet the Usual Suspects, both groups are devoted to the hard-bop tradition. Eric has shared the stage with such jazz luminaries as Lew Soloff, Gordon Brisker, Vince DiMartino, Greg Abate, Denis DiBlasio, Everett Greene, Steve Davis, Michael Spiro, and many others. He performs regularly with the Al Cobine Big Band, Powerhouse, the Latin Jazz Collective, El Fuego Lento, the Impalas, the Cincinnati Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and the Blue Wisp Big Band, and is an active studio musician. Eric was also the lead trumpet player on the National Tours of: Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein: The Musical, Elf: The Musical – first and second national tours, and the Addams Family international tour. He is a regular member of the staff at the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshop and various other programs. Eric is also a two-time finalist in the National Trumpet Competition’s jazz division and has been awarded numerous other accolades.
