Synopsis

Veronica rules the school.
David's starting a revolution.

It's class president election time, and no one is surprised when Veronica Pritchard-Pratt is the only name on the list. She's the most popular girl in school, a social giant who rules the campaign every single year. David, for one, is sick of the tyranny-which he says. Out loud. When Veronica hears about this, she issues a public challenge to David. With his pride on the line, David accepts his fate and enters the race.

But as the campaign wages on, and David and Veronica are also paired up for a spring musical recital, David learns this Goliath is more than just a social giant-and maybe deserves to win more than he does...

Review

"A comic romp that's also an enlightening quest for increased awareness and self-understanding." - Kirkus

"Van Dolzer (The Sound of Life and Everything) keeps the tone light between David's wry observations, amusing friends, and the goofy predicaments he falls into." - Publishers Weekly

"Genuinely sweet...readers looking for realistic middle-grade fiction will find David a likable guide in a balanced lesson about ceding the spotlight." - School Library Journal

"A breath of fresh air with a rich moral that can be used to teach children about reaching past stereotypes in today's world." - The Spectrum

"David's clever and witty voice makes his journey, aided by his patient and understanding parents, not only fun to read but also easily relatable. Van Dolzer's play on David and Goliath reminds readers not to judge others too quickly, and that what you see on the outside, doesn't always reflect what's really going on inside." - Deseret News

" A light, fun read." - The Uintah Basin Standard

"As Shepherd Vale Middle School prepares to vote on their next student president, David is frustrated to find that social climber Veronica is the only candidate. Tired of her always winning, he decides to challenge her in a race . "Don't Vote for Me" offers tweens a look into what it means to partake in healthy competition and understand social stigma. A refreshing look at the importance of challenging one another to do our best no matter the circumstance, this book dares each of us to take risks and make the most of every opportunity, no matter how daunting it may seem. " - Middle Shelf Magazine

"Written in first person narrative with lively similes, this is a fast-paced, humorous, and engaging story. Through the use of situational irony and inferences, misconceptions are overturned, leading the characters to learn valuable lessons" - School Library Connection
