Jorge Isaacs (1837-1895) fue un novelista y poeta colombiano del g�nero rom�ntico. Vivi� durante la consolidaci�n de la Rep�blica. Su padre fue un jud�o ingl�s procedente de Jamaica, que se instal� primero en el Choc�, donde se enriqueci� con la explotaci�n minera aur�fera y el comercio con Jamaica, y despu�s en Cali. La obra literaria de Isaacs se reduce a un libro de poemas que public� en 1864 y a su �nica novela, Mar�a.
