About the Author:
Cy Black was born in London in 1969. She never dreamt of being a novelist for, at the age of eight, she was diagnosed with severe dyslexia. Always one to embrace a challenge, she went on to read English at Bristol University, before pursuing a successful career in investment banking. Following the birth of her second daughter, Cy Black resigned to become a full-time mother yet, throughout her child-rearing years, a love story kept plaguing her. It was about how a young woman, who had grown-up without a father, seemed incapable of accepting love from well-intentioned males, and instead fixated on men just as unavailable as her own father had been. It was the tale of a girl who, despite all of her privileges, did not know how to, or care to, honour herself. In fact, to Cy Black's surprise, the resulting book ruthlessly deconstructed the psychology of 'the mistress', and tracked a trajectory with which she was uncomfortably familiar. After four decades of life experience, Cy Black had finally worked out that a woman's self-respect is a gift bestowed on her by a loving, present father, and that the girls who form without such a father, become easy prey for predatory men for, all too often, they are grateful for little, emotionally confused and easily used. When Cy Black found herself raising two daughters on her own, in a fatherless home, she knew she had an obligation to write the story that had haunted her. After one too many nights interrupted by forceful spurts of inspiration, Cy Black surrendered to a call that seemed to come from beyond and, tentatively, put fingertips to keyboard until, eventually, 'False Gods: the ecstasy' was written. 'False Gods: the ecstasy' is Cy Black's humble gift to other such young women, offering an exploration of a tale of one young woman falling hopelessly in love, with the wrong man, while hoping to provide entertainment, with just a smidgen of perspective and self-discovery for all those who fall victim to such an experience, while giving an insight to all those who never would. Currently Cy Black is living in West London, with her husband (yes she finally worked out how to accept and treasure true love!) and her two daughters, working on the sequel. All comments on the above are gratefully received on the 'False Gods' facebook page.
