The heart of the Norse Volsungasaga is the story of the cruel betrayal of Volsung and his sons, the grisly revenge worked by the surviving twins Signy and Sigmund, the tragic deaths of Sigmund?s sons, and Sigmund?s fall in a hopeless battle. Set in the pre-Viking age when Huns and Norsemen first encounter the waning powers of Rome, echoes from these times have fueled legends for centuries. Volsungs retells that story, tracing a family of larger-than-life men and women across steppes and surging seas as they strive to maintain honor and fortune in a world where the mysteries of creation have not yet been banished to children?s tales.
