This early works on the Elements of Latin is an informative look at the subject. The body of the book is divided into two parts : fifty-six lessons for the first half year and fifty-four for the second. The lessons are short and simple, and are designed, in most cases, for a single recitation period. Two optical lessons have been added, covering matter that some teachers prefer to include in the work of the first year. The remainder of the book up to the reviews is supplementary in character, and is intended to diversify and enrich the regular work through the lessons, and to supply reading matter after the lessons are completed. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900's and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
