The Dog In British Poetry. This collection of poems speak for themselves, and show sufficiently the place of the dog in British poetry. The subject-matter of the volume needs no apology. Most of the poems are good, but some certainly do not reach a high poetic standard; yet the author hopes the reader finds all of them interesting. With regard to some, the reader may very properly bear in mind Cowper's request: 'spare the poet for subject's sake'. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive.
