Clorinda Matto de Turner (1852-1909). Viuda, pobre, dotada de una formación intelectual poco común en las mujeres de su tiempo, fue también una notable y audaz periodista peruana que del cuadro de costumbres pasó a la historia literaria latinoamericana por sus aportes a la novela indigenista, que tanto hizo en su época por sensibilizar a la sociedad criolla acerca del irresuelto problema de estas comunidades sobrevivientes, particularmente en los países andinos.
