World of the Cell with CD-ROM: International Edition 6/E

The World of the Cell, Sixth Edition continues the tradition of previous editions widely praised for covering some of the most difficult concepts for students – bioenergetics, metabolism, enzyme kinetics, thermodynamics, membrane transport, cell signaling, regulatory mechanisms, transcription and translation, signal transduction, and DNA replication and recombination – at the right level and clarity.

Principles of Biochemistry: International Edition 4/E

This concise, introductory text focuses on the basic principles of biochemistry, filling the gap between the encyclopedic volumes and the cursory overview texts. The book has a well-deserved reputation for being the most accurate biochemistry textbook in the market.

Chemistry: An Introduction to Organic and Physical Chemistry 3/E

Provides robust coverage of the different branches of chemistry – with unique depth in organic chemistry in an introductory text –  helping students to develop a solid understanding of chemical principles, how they interconnect, and how they can be applied to our lives.

Essentials of Genetics: International Edition 6/E

Balancing classical and modern genetics, Essentials of Genetics helps students understand basic genetics concepts, apply those concepts to biological problems, and use analytical reasoning to figure out which of many problem-solving techniques apply.

KEY FEATURES

  • Chapters are grouped into inorganic, physical and organic components, with integrating themes highlighted throughout. This provides flexibility and highlights the connections between different areas.
  • Topic boxes throughout the book highlight the applications of chemistry in industry, biology, the environment and the laboratory. These help students to understand the relevance of chemistry to everyday life.
  • The text is four-colour throughout with three-dimensional computer-generated artwork, and is supported by CHIME graphics on the companion website, helping students to visualise chemical structures.
  • Definition boxes and end-of-chapter checklists provide excellent revision aids.
  • End-of-chapter problems reinforce learning and develop subject knowledge;  in this edition, answers to non-descriptive problems have been added at the end of the book.
  • A companion website at www.pearsoned.co.uk/housecroftfeatures multiple-choice questions, rotatable three-dimensional molecular structures, and a Mathematics Tutor. For full information and details of the OneKey resource available with this book, see page xx.

Catherine E. Housecroft and Edwin C. Constable are both Professors of Chemistry  at the University of Basel, Switzerland. They have extensive international teaching experience and their research interests include supramolecular chemistry, nanotechnology, organometallic and cluster chemistry. In 1997 Professor Constable was awarded the prestigious Howard lectureship for pre-eminence in organic chemistry or related disciplines by the University of Sydney, Australia.
