The distinct focus of Elizabeth Ettorre's book is on revisioning, an approach which enables us to let go of how we have seen women drug users in the past, in order to construct new perceptions of their drug experiences. Developed from a feminist embodiment perspective, which problematises gender, power and the body, this approach upholds an anti-oppressive stance in which we complicate , as well as theorise, the concept, 'difference'. Female drug use is viewed as a form of embodied deviance linked with tasks of restraint, reproduction, representation and regulation. While initial chapters in the book lay the groundwork for a feminist embodiment approach, later chapters look at different types of embodiments.

About the Author:

ELIZABETH ETTORRE is Professor of Sociology at Liverpool University, UK. She has taught and researched in the USA, Finland and the UK and holds honorary appointments at the universities of Exeter, Helsinki, Abo Academy University and the Institute of Scientific Analysis. Her research interests include women's studies, substance use, health and illness, and ethics.
