About the Author:

Louise Simmers received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Maryland and a master’s degree in education from Kent State University. She has worked as a public health nurse, a medical-surgical nurse, a coronary care nurse, and an instructor of practical nursing and diversified health occupations.
