Ninny and his friend selected the Blen heim, not so much for its superiority over the other Oxford coaches of that day, as from its being driven by an old Rotherwickian - for such was Lynchpynne. He was of a respectable family, who had sufficient interest with one of the governors of Rotherwick to get him placed on the foundation of that school. He passed through his seven years there creditably and quietly, being notorious for nothing but flanking a team of four fags in hempen harness round the green every day between school-hours, and giving half-a-crown to any one who could neigh as naturally as a coach-horse. Upon governors' days he was observed to select the best ap pointed carriage; and in driving round Rother wick Square, to cut in and out and turn the corners more courageously and neatly than any of his competitors. The meta ferm'dis evitata rotis was the goal of all his wishes.
